You learn something everyday! I guess it was by coincidence that all my early production 69's had the short pump and my February and later cars had the longer pump. I think my 69 convertible was built with the long pump but the car was built in mid July 69 so that may make sense. It even has a 70 style intake but with a late May 69 casting date.

I thought my shop manual would have the pulley listings but I guess I was thinking of the MPC. I'll look at it tomorrow and post all the different pn's and letter codes unless someone beats me to it.

The very earliest '70 Pontiac V8's were the first to use the "124" casting tall 11 bolt waterpump, while the long run of '69 Firebird V8's continued to use the short "351" casting pumps. This has been confirmed on a multitude of original '69 Pontiacs. In the early '90's when I first began pulling "351" casting pumps to rebuild, I always cked boneyard '69 Birds. Odds were a lot better on the '69 Birds than on '69 A-B-GP's, same looking for early '69 wterpump pulleys.

Service Parts...Pontiac, for some reason, did not want to stock in parts, the "351" casting pumps, so service bulletins were issued, as well as notation in the master parts books, that in service a later tall 11 bolt waterpump would be used on '69's, there also is a notation that the dealer mechanic would have to swap on a corresponding "late 69" (actually '70 model waterpump pulley). This worked fine for service, except on '69 Firebirds. One should view an original '69 Firebird performance V8 with 4 core & factory 5 blade flex fan, & look at the very short fan spacer & then will see the problem.

From a specialty core perspectus, one will not find original "124" casting waterpumps cast in the Winter or Spring of '69, the first "124"s were cast in the Summer of '69 & used on early '70 models. The "059" single groove pulley is correct for Des' application, along with "847" crank pulley.
