I'm pro-vinyl
I just had a vinyl top installed on my car. I purchased the Legendary top from Ames and paid a local, reputable upholstery shop to do the install. I was pleased with the job they did and also the quality of the Legendary top. The Legendary vinyl top and the drip rail moldings Ames sells got high marks from the upholstery shop crew.
I pulled the original vinyl top off several years ago to fix the rust around the rear window but other other than that, there was virtually no rust anywhere on the roof under the vinyl. I suspect the car spent most of its life garaged.
