Showing my age but I seem to recollect that Pat Donavan (mind you with a "One Off Engine") ran in the 7s at one point in his career Naturally Aspirated. It was not a rail either.
I think until Marty came out with his Turbo deal Mr Donavan was the Top Dog Guy, not counting someone like Beswick and Beswick was Chebby Powered.
