69-70 GP's had the same basic tank as the 69 Abody but in 71 the A body tank capacity went from 21.5 gallons to 19 thanks to the vapor recovery system so the GP tank was enlarged to 23.5 probably because even with 21.5 gallons range was weak (68 GP had a 26.5 gallon tank) and 19 gallons would have been unacceptable especially with the lower fuel economy of the low compression engines in 71.
