Need a good pic of the right side of the carb and intake.
Is there a well in the manifold on the right side?
If so then a choke (stove) thermo spring is mounted there and a cover is over it.
A rod will then run up to the choke butterfly to open and close it.
(according to temperature)

That is how my 72s choke operates.

BUT pretty sure this a 72 only deal so Im not sure about your 71.
