One thing is for sure, it's not getting any cheaper to restore these cars. Prices are continually going up, paint jobs getting more expensive, materials are outrageous now, NOS prices are off the charts if you can find them anymore etc...
It's almost always cheaper to buy one done, even the higher priced nearly 6 figure cars that are restored to perfection cost more than that to restore them.
But, car guys that enjoy this hobby aren't in it for the money and pay no mind to the end dollar amount. As long as you're having fun with it and enjoying the process, that's what counts.
Then there are the really old guys that remember what these things cost new and think everyone else is crazy with their asking prices. My dad comes to mind
