You're probably at 1/2 throttle, with the blades open that far, I bet you have less than 8, if not less than 6" of vacuum. So no vacuum advance. That's why it runs hot at highway speeds.

Very interesting. I'll hook up a gauge. I will say this, when I was using a different vacuum can that wasn't fully engaging at highway speed, that's when I was getting the "trailer hitch" surging, which went away when I changed to this can.
