I've tended bar for 37 years in a college town, also lots of locals. Pretty much anyone under the age of 30 lives and dies by social media and their phones.
When we were kids your narcissism expressed itself in things like your car ... yes we ALL have that desire to show off a bit ... these days it's all about what you put on social media, more than what you drive, have, work for etc. etc. It's all about that picture of yourself on social media and the response to it.
No wonder they don't care about personal property ... to them personal property means that someone else has something nicer than them and they are posting it on social media, which makes them envious ... but since they don't make the WORK-MONEY connection anymore ... they figure it's just easier if someone makes it so everyone has the same things.
Cause then of course, their beauty (imagined), intelligence (imagined), superiority (imagined), education (indoctrination) and worldliness (imagined) is what they THINK they will be judged by, instead of what they worked (yuck) for.
