People will eventually clamor for driverless cars, not because they WANT driverless cars, but because they're scared to death of the liability for making a driving mistake.
Speeding tickets are already far more expensive than there is any logical basis for. What happens when every driverless car captures you speeding or blowing a stop-sign, or changing lanes improperly, and automatically notifies the Police, after capturing a recording (evidence) of your (electronic?) license plate and velocity via their on-board radar? Most folks will give in and be scared to control a vehicle when being surveilled with no warrant 24/7/365.
