Sounds like you'll be needing a posi unit. If you need an 8.2 BOP posi carrier that will work with 3.08 gears, Auburn makes 'em. I'm not clear whether you have a Chevy 8.2 or a BOP 8.2. They are different.

If you have a BOP rear, it might be a good idea to go with at least 3.36 gears. New ones are still sold.

The BOP 8.2 will usually hold up OK, with hard street tires. But, I broke a pinion, in a 455 bracket car, with slicks. Switched to 12-bolts & never had any more rear end problems.
So, if you ever put sticky tires on your car, behind a 455/4-speed, you might break something. Might wanna consider a rear end upgrade, instead of spending money on an 8.2. Just a thought.
