Familysearch.org is a good site because they (The LDS Church in Utah) are the people that spent decades making record scans (photos) of all baptism,birth,marriage and death records and chrch records all over the world in any country that would let them. They own all the records.I think they started in the 1940's or 1950's. Their search function kind of sucks,so I use some sites in Belgium and Netherlands that have better search options but in the end if you find a record it will be on Family search. Yes you have to register for free now, that started 17 December 2017. I have used that site for years and never got any junk mail from them either. Of course their people come knocking on the door twice a year when the weather is nice leaving a small flier to join the church.
