When using an open element aftermarket air cleaner, most have a cut-out in the base for the crankcase ventilation tube/hose. Here is a link to the item that can affix the breather tube/hose to the air cleaner base:

Hence one can go with a stock type set-up or use an open breather in the valve cover.
