Pontiac used the word "delete" in Car Distribution Memo 79-F-8, but they did not actually delete the front air dam and front wheel spoilers, they were simply not installed. The wheel spoilers were shipped separately, the air dam was not shipped at all because of production problems. Again, this was for a brief time period only, and only Norwood cars. When the car arrived at the dealership, the customer was given the choice of whether to have the wheel spoilers installed without the front air dam. The other option was to not install the front wheel spoilers at all and drive the car "as is". When then air dam was available, the customer would come back to the dealership and have the air dam and wheel spoilers installed.
Pontiac began shipping Trans Ams without the center air dam starting February 1974. The center air dam and attaching screws were shipped in the trunk of the car. This was to prevent damage upon loading/unloading during shipping.
The front suspension spacers, which gave extra clearance and prevented the suspension from compressing during shipping, were used from 1970 through February 1974.
