Hi,
I tried to build the vac diaphragm by holding the rod up with one finger, attach the spring assembly, tighten. It just crumbles and is not a smooth operation from full extension back to top of housing. It's like the rubber has lost it's elasticity. In the pic you can see inside the housing and it has crumble zones.
It would be a very erratic secondary opening and wouldn't even probably fully extend. I think it's best to buy a new one. I suppose the "rubber" o-ring on the top "MAY" not be sealing right but it's highly unlikely.
