A 79 did not originally come with a heater control valve. All it had was the heater hose connected to the hose fitting on the back of the engine. Hot water continuously circulates through the heater core on these cars. Heat control is controlled by the position of the deflector door inside the heater box inside the car. Sometimes the heater door leaks heat inside the cabin.
