Although this is a fine idea at face value, it is inherently flawed;
I'd rather put a twist on this;
Generally the entrance fee for vehicle owners is to ensure that the operating club/organization can pay for the venue, the required insurance to do the show, and any other nice-ities like renting tents ect...
I have been to a couple shows where the organizing club will actually line up sponsers to cover the costs involved - now that is nice!
It's my opinion that often the entrance fee for a S&S and the required duration where you're essentially stuck to languish on the feild/parking lot is getting out of hand...

I would have tried to casually pass it to him under the guise of "it looks like you dropped this"... and uttered something that I'd probably regret saying if I had been in your shoes.
