Locally, the best burgers here in South Central Texas, IMHO, are at Hopdoddy which has about 30 locations, primarily in Texas but sprinkled around the country. Whiskey Cake, with about 6 locations also mainly in Texas, is also very good. Hopdoddy is much more fast casual, Whiskey Cake is definitely more upscale. Both use thicker patties, will cook to taste but default to medium rare to medium if no preference is selected. There are several other spots that are also very very good. Little places that have been in business for decades, only one location, no web presence other than Yelp, and are local only crowds when you go in.
