I don't get the lead gas love. The stuff is awful for our health and the environment as well. I enjoy the nostalgia I get when I smell a racer's car running high test, but I don't miss "every car on the road smells" and the breathing problems I used to have as a result. And while I enjoy my gas-powered everythings, the electric motors and batteries that have come out in the last 15-20 years really have eliminated the need for a good majority of them. I'm sure one day even chainsaws and heavier duty gas powered tools will be surpassed by them. The technology is just "better" at doing what it does. Just like the the horse and buggy were surpassed by the combustion engine and took old timers screaming and kicking into the future 100 years ago.
The lack of replacement parts is a frustration but it's hardly unique to this day and age, it's a financial decision made by companies. You weren't going to walk into a dealer in 1975 and find anything you need for something made in 1965 unless that part was still in production in the last few years. Parts are obsoleted all of the time and the spares inventory depleted. Cost of doing business.
I'm nostalgic for the old days too, but we can't spend all of our time frustrated that life changed and moved on. Some of it was for the better and some of it not so much, but that's just life.
