You mentioned the sidewalls Phil. Here's one way to keep them from cracking or weather checking.... Silicone. I use a spray can of Silicone and wipe the sidewalls with it.... outside and inside. Works great and actually cleans the sidewalls too. I've had my BFG TA Radials on the rear of my GTO for well over 3 years and use the Silicone regularly and on the new front BFGS too. Not a sign of weather checking or cracking. And I use it on all the rubber seals for windows, doors, and trunk too. Just like the garage mechanics did for the cars we had back in the 50s thru the 60s when I was a kid.
I won't use any of the tire shine products at all. To me they all look like crap, don't protect anything, and make a hell of a mess. But that's just me.
