I think what they're saying here is the clamp down ring on a standard distributor is about the same size as the hole in a SD block. ID and OD of the gasket ends up extremely narrow.

A thin sheet metal ring/washer/gasket (regular distributor ID and SD gasket OD) installed before the adapter sleeve goes on would give more sealing area.
Use two gaskets or glue/epoxy the ring to the distributor.
A thick ring would require cutting that amount off the distributor to keep height close to right.

I think too much and got plenty of time.
