Went back over all the adjustments and they were within range. It's fairly easy to tell when you are compressing the lifter plunger, pumped up or not. Pumped up is easier. Some were pumped up from rolling it over, some weren't. You get a feel for where the lifter plunger travel is and then make sure you are just inside the travel range. I didn't find any reason for the valve noise.
