In regards to the timing / hot running issue have you ever confirmed TDC on the Balancer, I can recall thru all you have posted, sorry!
In regards to the Distributor , on used ones the inner shaft that moves with the advance weights can get gummed up with age and either hang up the mechanical advance from advancing or retarding in responce to engine rpm , or just make it move a bunch slower in regards to rpm.
Has this been looked at?

I'm sure the balancer is right because I just did a cam change. It's also a fairly recent SFI approved balancer that I installed just about a year and a half ago. It's nice, with numbers all around it including 90º, 180º, 270º..
I really doubt the pushrods are bent. The rockers weren't that far backed out and they are very stout Crower pushrods:
