While your in there, take each rocker and check for a problem...rough spot in each pivot and roller tip.
You really want to check for lifters to be loose in their bore... as well as tight.

You can check for excessive bleed down on each lifter by leaning on the pushrod end of the rocker @ idle (a hammer handle works nicely) , being that the valvetrain noise goes away with increased RPM...(oil pressure), I believe this is where the noise is sourcing from. You got an oil mess already to clean up.

What rear gear does your car have?
Is the noise there when the engine is cold??
