Might have missed the correction, but worth stating here. The '68 timing cover was a combination of old and new. Still used the 8-bolt water pump with two plates that are not visible from the outside and the larger 4-bolt harmonic balancer. If either of the plates were missing the slow speed temps would also be through the roof.

Have a friend that went with a custom aluminum shroud/fan assembly and even with the flaps, the $1,250 assembly runs warmer on the freeway than his previous stock shroud and mechanical fan at speed.
