I have seen upside down "62" heads as well and I had a set at one time. I have also seen big valve screw in stud small combustion chamber heads with no casting numbers, just a blank pad. The cast dates were in the 1970 production year. At the time, I thought they may have been service heads, but I later saw heads where the casting numbers were ground down and a production casting number was stamped in. The surface texture appeared to be original, so I think somebody forgot to put the casting numbers in the tool when casting the heads. Has anybody ever seen D-ports like this?

Here is another oddity. I had a set of #31 heads that came off of a car I junked a long time ago. One head had the same casting style as the early 1968 16s and 670s and the other one had the later 1968 style casting. The heads were only about two days apart, and came on the same car. I don't have a scanned image but I still have pictures somewhere I took in the 1980s.
