The 1980 Citation was introduced in April 1980 - far from a full year early. More like 5 months.
Makes more sense than when Ford introduced the Mustang on April 17th 1964 as a 1964 model, based on the 1964 Ford Falcon.
Coincidentally, my 1964 GTO Convertible was built on April 17th, 1964.
