The extended reach plug will raise the compression a very small amount and make the burn happen faster so the motor can be run with less timing which inturn helps out top end power and fuel usage.
A extended tip plug will run a tad hotter, but I do not think that in motor built such as yours that you will be out on the edge of a 45 plugs heat range to worry about it!
