In the link I posted earlier to the Jay Leno video, I think he makes a good point - he says that while electric may become mainstream for general transportation, internal combustion cars are always going to be around.
Like SRR said above, comparing classic cars to current day electric vehicles is kind of apples and oranges - just because an EV is faster it isn't going to change the experience of driving your classic.
