Stepping away from CNC porting and building cast iron heads wasn't an easy one for me. I'm personally very passionate about reworking the factory pieces to make a bunch more power over stock but it basically comes down to time.
The machine time involved along with the labor from start to finish on a set of cast iron heads is over double the amount of time it takes to CNC port and finish a new set of aluminum heads. On top of that I have a lot of machine work coming my way that generates 3-4 times the $$$ in the same amount of time it takes to build a set of cast iron heads.
I'm not getting any younger and it's getting a bit old working long days 6-7 days a week just to make a living (I'm a little burnt out to be honest) especially when you consider the hundreds of thousands of dollars we've invested in equipment. It's time to make some changes so I can free up some time to work on some of my own projects and enjoy life a bit before my time is up on this planet.
We've also just bought a used SuperFlow engine dyno that will be up and running in a week or two so I'm going to build a few more engines than I have been for local pickup only as well will be investing a bunch of time into R&D (my real passion!!) to continue my never ending search for better ways to produce more pure Pontiac power!!
I still have a pile of cast iron heads to finish, once I'm completely caught up and as time allows I'm sure I'll build a set here and there especially unique projects.
