The casting is based off the identical data base the billet was machined from. The billet does not have the water cross over, as it would be nearly impossible to machine from solid billet. The billet is intended to be used with a separate water cross over such as the one from KRE. I don't know how many hours are in the billet, I am truly afraid to add them up.
Both early and late model castings have the integral water cross over, just as the factory intake did. Our castings are identical to the factory units in every way even down to the casting numbers.
The production castings will have a high quality "as-cast" surfaces except for the carb flanges, cylinder head flanges, and thermostat regions which will all be CNC machined to net size from the raw casting. Most casting projects use T356 aluminum, we are using a higher grade aluminum type 808-F for better performance and much better appearance qualities.
We have seen examples of automotive castings from the foundry we are using here in Southern CA, and they are every bit as good (or better) than anything Edelbrock has cast.
