Is the front end on the car yet?
Of all the cars I've worked on with tight headers or down-pipes it was always easiest to lay those things in where they should go and have the engine come down with them loosely in place. If you've got a cherry picker and the front end is off the car, unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine a bit as needed. That's how I'd do it anyhow.
