Can confirm. I planned about $40k for my restoration, and after adding up literally every receipt I have so far, I'm over double that amount and have not even built an engine. It also depends on your starting point, though, and I knowingly started with a rusty car that I wanted to save for sentimental reasons.
It's always much, much less expensive to buy an already restored car.
