Then what stops you from buying an external filter housing with the correct pitch stem.
Stop and think about it. You want to screw a different filter on a Pontiac adapter maybe I didn't read close enough, but it sounded like you wanted to replace the OEM filter with a 3 micron. I'm just trying to help you out, and buying the remote mount is the easiest way to get where you want to go.
