Here’s a suggestion.
Why don’t you use a cut off disc to cut back that original filter nipple as short as you can.
You can even ware down a cut off disc to a smaller OD to get in even closer and cut the nipple shorter.
I do this to get cut off disc into tight places by cutting into stone or a brick.
The original nipple is .8125” in OD.
The needed drill bit to tap a hole for 1/2” pipe is .9062” in OD.
It will take a drill press for sure, but you could drill and tap the Housings original bushing and then just thread in and red Loctite the 1/2” you need.
