Okay, refresh my memory. I might be wrong, but I think I remember changing the starter field coil from a 2 coil to a 4 coil for heat issues when I was a tech back then.

My first new car was a '71 Z28 and quite often it would not crank. Took it in under warranty several times and they never figured it out. Fortunately, it was a 4 speed, so I could push start as long as a friend was with me. I ended up making a jumper wire to go from the purple wire to the battery so I could start it myself. Never figured out the problem.
