The "1978 Trans Am".
Almost sold my '77 Bandit as I was contemplating getting a Y88 Gold Edition.
Glad I passed on that, cause when the Smokey and the Bandit Movie came out there was no way that was gonna happen. I remember driving my Bandit to see the movie.

Of the 98K '78's built, the rare one is the Y84 SE with the Pontiac 400 mill and 4sp - only 20 built.

And there were only 489 Y82 SE's (T-Tops) built with the 400 Pontiac mill and 4sp.
BUT - there were no Y81 Special Edition hardtops built? The Production info on the 4th attachment does not list any. Experts - please weigh in here!

"Y84 is Same as Y82 but applies only to Trans Am manufactured after mid 1978 calendar production. The Y84 code means that the t tops used were manufactured by Fisher and they were much bigger. The Y82 Trans Ams were built in low volume from 1976 through 1978, but this "Bandit" paint job carried on (under various other RPO codes) through the second-gen Firebird's final year in 1981. In 1977, the Y82 code represented only the examples with t-tops, while the hardtops showed Y81 on the build sheet."
