LOL
A man of like mind!
I know the rabbit-trail all to well.
My suspicion will be prefaced by a question;
Is your glive box door a very good match to the dashboard's vinyl?
I ask that because I have seen varying degrees of colour variation regaurdless of year or colour (except black);
The one's which we see that are dead-ringer matches in colour, are often ones which have been painted to match.
Companies like 'Just Dashes' can give you a dead ringer colour match for your console AND glove box door.

EDIT:
Another thing I just thought of;
If a replacent correct colour glove box door was ordered when you buy them from GM, that too might explain it.
(the '70-only thread is really just about identifying original production run parts, which supply appeared to be exhausted during the 1971 model year;
and even when I was gifted my car (1995) you could still get replacement parts from a dealer!)

I realize that to some, I probably have come off as a stickler veering quite possibly to the anal retentive spectrum of things, but that's really not the way I am.
My opinion is,
if your car is complete, who cares if the minute details are off - just enjoy it as-is.
If on the other hand, you are putting together a car, or you plan to replace/upgrade parts, my opinion is that it doesn't hurt to know what is 100% correct - just incase you can find it.
