With aluminum, the core is going to be dual 1" which is actually thinner than a 4 row copper brass but has more volume and better cooling. If you are referring to the tanks leaving a slight gap in the rubber insulators, then that's the way they all are. I suppose there could be a gap as much as 1/4" on each side? When you use the top claw bracket, it should be tight enough that the radiator can't move.
The Super Duty versions of the GTO radiator have bigger tanks but are only available with a drivers side inlet on the top.
