If the gas is really stale, say 2-3 years old, it's not any more volatile than kerosene is. My emergency genset has sat for roughly 2 years with the same fuel in it. I tried starting it late last winter as there was an ice storm forecast the next day, and no start. I had some real gasoline in a can and poured a little into the carb throat, and it started. It would run once you started it on fresh gas, but it was never going to start with the stale gas.

Just out of curiosity I drained a little of the stale gas and tried to light it with a propane torch in the driveway. I had a hell off a time even getting it to light with the torch, just about like K1, or diesel lights. So yes diluting it in another car is probably going to be the easiest way to get rid of it.
