If the noise bothers you, building a small shed outside of the garage is the best thing I ever did to not have to listen to the compressor run. If I ever get all the necessary things finished at this house, I will build a small shed for the compressors.
The air intake has a lot to do with compressor noise, I packed the air cleaner in one of my compressors with foam rubber, (same type small gas engines use for air cleaners) that helped a lot.
