I usually let it run overnight and test it with a little tapping to make sure the internal ground (the spring copper forked strip the gets ground from the housing) has good contact through the painted housing.
Talking ground it is really important that the ground strap that connects the clock assembly to the rest of the dash bezel is solid at both ends. The 69 dashboards across the 69 Pontiac lines are inherently poorly ground.
Coincidentally today I used the exact same clock kit on a Catalina im working on (B and F bodies use the same kit, the A and G cars share a different kit).
