I'm 64 and still ride my dirt bikes ... I'd go electric ... as you say, way less maintenance and when I'm out in the woods I kind of like the quiet, moreso as I got older.
Plus, hey, getting old, I usually only do a few laps around our 3/4 mile trail so I don't think the battery would be a problem.
