It will be cast next to the distributor hole in an alphanumeric form. The alphabet corresponds with a month followed by two digits for a day of the month and a single digit denoting the last digit of the year. A018... January 1st 1968 or it could be 1978. You would be able to determine that by other means like the two letter code.
As for the block casting number, it is cast in larger numbers along the flange where the transmission bell housing attaches. Right behind the right hand cylinder bank.
