A decent field test would be to start and run the engine until it dies. When it dies, immediately check for spark with a spark tester on the coil wire removed from the center of the dist. cap. If you have spark, something non-ignition related is the cause. No spark, remove dist cap and spray with some kind of freeze agent available or a little shot of R134A on the Petronix module. If it then starts back up, Petronix is shot.
