Larry's comments in post #17 reminds me.....
About 18 years ago Paul Spotts did one of the first 505 builds using a early IA2 block.
According to Paul, "This was not a 'build a gazillion horsepower' project. Rather it was an exercise to learn about the features and idiosyncrasies of the IA II block and building a street 505-cube engine that has vacuum for power brakes and uses a true street type cam. It didn't make huge horsepower numbers but did deliver on torque. It idles like a mild engine but can still put a well-prepped street car into the 10s."
The Edelbrock 87cc heads were 'cleaned up' to 306 cfm at 0.600" lift.
Valves- 2.110" intake / 1.660" exhaust
The compression was 10.2:1
It used a Comp solid roller cam with 254/254 at .050" / .3880" lobe lift w/ 1.65 rockers / 110 LSA
A port matched Victor intake with some mild port work and a AED HP 1000 carb
2-inch primary headers.
581.8 HP at 5700 rpm (corrected)
Best torque pull was 599.3 ft.lbs. at 4500 rpm (corrected)
.
