In 1969 one magazine writer hated the spoilers on the Judge, and the T/A when they were introduced. Pontiac sales literature said at 100 MPH the spoilers exerted 100 lbs of downforce. The smart assed writer said, "A cement filled spare tire would have the same effect on downforce". So yes there was some bad press for those cars too back in the day.
Today we all have become accostomed to the rear wings on the 69 T/A, and Judge. They are highly sought after to make clones of either of those cars, so much so that I believe there are 3 aftermarket versions of them, but the OEMs will bring the most money.
I was fortunate enough to be very good friends with the the parts manager at my local Pontiac dealer, where I did my Co-op training while in the auto mechanics course at our local Vo-tech. If he had parts that were ordered and never picked up, he would sell them to me for the balance owed from the downpayment required to order parts in. I bought a new GM rear Judge spoiler for $35. I also bought a Ram Air hood pan, and air cleaner for a 68 Firebird for the same price. I also bought a pair of GM chrome 389 65 GTO valve covers for $20 for the pair. The good old days.......
I've spent quite a few years working on aerial lift vehicles, as well as forklifts. Many of those units were in enclosed industrial settings so they were required to run clean. That entails using either propane, or electric to keep from poisoning the workers. Propane is a clean fuel but if the building is tight with no, to little air exchange from outside, the fumes can build up, and cause problems. That leaves electric battery powered machine with no emissions.
Industry many time runs 3 shifts and 24 hours a day, electric vehicles can usually make 6-8 hours before running dead. You can't duplicate 3 complete units to cover a 24 hour period, too costly. Industry has figured a way to refuel their electric vehicles in minutes. They have 2-3 batteries for each vehicle, and swap them out with fresh batteries. If EVs ever want to bypass the recharging problem they're likely going to have to figure a way to swap out batteries, in lieu of recharging one set over, and over, with the attending downtime. Most batteries will have a longer life cycle when charged slowly over rapid charging.
I can see a company similar to a propane cylinder exchange company that owns the batteries, and is responsible for their upkeep, and removal from service when the unit is in need of rebuilding, or replacement.
EVs are just in their infancy, and need to work through some of the detracting problems. I surmise they'll get some of the major bugs worked out, but the world is still going to need hydrocarbon powered vehicles too. Electric industrial vehicles have been around for many decades, there are still a need for ICE powered vehicles too. The electrics have downsides too that just are to complicated, or expensive to scrap every ICE unit, and go 100% EV. The material handlers realize that you need each, in it's own application, maybe the greenies will eventually realize it too.
The plan to do away with all ICE vehicles by 2050 isn't at all based in facts, it's somebody's dream, not rooted in reality. The dreamers have no concept of what it would take to make all EVs in 30 years. they have only thought this out, about as far as the end of their noses, the rest of the reality hasn't even been considered.
Funny thing is the zero pollution will never happen, as electric is just a way to burn hydrocarbons to generate electricity, and pass the energy along another medium. You're still burning hydrocarbons to make the energy, another lawmakers folly.
