I'd put the resistance more in the rivets/bushings on the hinge frames than the springs getting weak. had a friend send out a set of hinges for new bushings and rivets and it was amazing how smooth and easy that hood came up afterwards.

that's expensive though. for mine it's some WD40 and work the hood up and down to loosen the hinges up a bit!
