Thanks for the helpful responses. I know it seems like a trivial problem but only after 2 hours of wiggling, pulling ,and prying with WD 40 and blaster did I resort to posting here. I am trying to refurbish/restore and reuse as many original parts as possible. I finally did get both right and left side connectors apart by heating the connectors with a heat gun and driving a jewelers flat blade screw driver between the sides of the male and female connectors until the screw driver bottomed on the female connector. Then holding the male end with pliers I tapped on the screw driver handle and it came apart. There was no locking tab and no corrosion in the 3 spades.
