The 4L60E is a better unit than the early 700-4R/4L60's. The first big change to that transmission came in 1987 when the factory did about a dozen needed upgrades to the original design. The 4L60E's came out a few years later with even more upgrades.

You will need to install solid teflon sealing rings on the reverse drum and input shaft. That will be the biggest challenge. It can be done without buying the special tools needed but a LOT easier if you just take the plunge and buy them.

Haven't done one in quite a while but it is a good ideal to replace the wiring harness inside the pan and even better if you buy new shift solenoids, PR switch and LU solenoid as well........
