....we had bought a 70GTO 3-speed stick 400 with the Type O 12-bolt POSI. Gearing was 2.56:1

Seemed original, but the prevailing opinion was 10-bolts for 400s, or Chevy 12-bolt (3.31:1) for 455s.

So maybe some GTOs has Type O from the factory?
